OVERVIEW

This project was born from one of my client's desires to create a full array of cellular, internet, entertainment and home security products offerings for sale to the public. My client joined forces with JR Communications, which, a newly formed California corporation which sells and markets the aforementioned services. At the time, the company really didn't have a web presence and wanted to provide an avenue to sell the services and to offer JR Communications the site as an offering to parlay his services into an executive position with the company.

As such, the client contracted my services to create such a web presence.


MISSION

The goal was to be able to simplify the myriad of AT&T internet, cellular and DirecTV services along with Vivint Home Security products. If you are aware of the wide universe of products and services that AT&T offers, you will have a slight grasp of the enormity of such a task. For this reason, we decided to scale down the web offerings and use the website as a sort of business card, with plans for detailing different services in detail in the future.

As much as I like a challenge, I have to say that I was grateful for such an approach, as JR Communications is essentially the equivalent of an AT&T store, with all of it's many products and services. If you have ever visited ATT.com, you will quickly note that you can become lost in the site fairly quickly. So the scaled-down approach was the only one that made sense. Otherwise, it would be four to six years before we would ever be able to deploy a site which spanned the full range of AT&T's products alone!

This site is presently just a small offering, as we await funding from the parent company to flesh it our further.

DEVELOPMENT NOTES

The first step in working on this site, was determining what we could do and what we couldn't do, within the framework of the AT&T guidelines. Basically, one of JRC's offerings is the fact that it is the equivalent of an AT&T store, but not able to represent itself as such. Rather it was authorized to offer the full range of ATT products and services, but obviously not over-compete with AT&T's franchise stores themselves.

This was actually quite sn open-ended deal as the client was able to pick and choose exactly which services and products to sell. One great advantage was that JRC could take advantage of many specials and customer offers that AT&T does not offer through it's franchise local stores. And JRC is able to offer many of the same specials which are available in AT&T stores. The only drawback is that JRC can not portray itself as being a franchise storefront that is accessible via AT&T's network. As such it is more of a direct line of sales operation, which is responsible for directly contacting clients on a personal and individual or corporate basis.

This project is a currently active and ongoing endeavor. The client and I are prototyping a number of options and adding them as we flesh them out. So as they say in the entertainment business... "Stay tuned!"
